Curriculum Characteristics

The school organizes outings and visits per theme, giving students exposures to different people of the community, therefore increasing their confidence in communicating with others. Teachers also design different activities for students to demonstrate their individual characteristics and to realize their potential. These activities include: drama, Christmas carol singing, giving out blessing to the Sai Kung community, model exhibition, artwork showcase etc., giving opportunities for students to express themselves. The school curriculum will comprise of multiple learning aspects, including: logical thinking, mathematical concepts, scientific experiments etc. The teaching material is innovative, inspiring students to have a thirst for knowledge, therefore enriching their learning experience and nurturing them to become confident individuals.

Simultaneously, the school aspires to cultivate a mutual appreciation culture within the school. Teachers will praise students in areas which they did well in and encourage students to appreciate and encourage each other, creating a happy learning environmen

The school endeavours to ensure that students develop a good character from a young age, growing up to be a kind and caring person. When teachers design the school curriculum, they infiltrate moral education into each learning theme, cultivating students to be respectful and appreciative through different games and real-life experiences. With regular morning prayer sessions, students learn to be grateful for: the lovely environment created by the Heavenly father, the care from their parents, the teaching from the school teachers, in addition to the acceptance and warm embrace of their fellow classmates. The school aims to establish in students a positive attitude and a friendly personality.

The mental and physical health of students are taken into consideration when the school plans their diet and daily schedule. To strengthen the culture of a healthy diet, the school menu is designed by dietitians and the food served is primarily comprised of organic ingredients, ensuring that students are on a balanced diet at school. In their daily schedule, the school will emphasize student’s ability to self-care, giving opportunities through various daily activities for students to learn to take care of themselves, look after their bodies and be health conscious. For example, students are taught to wash their hands regularly and rinse their mouth before afternoon nap. Moreover, students will be allocated time daily for big muscle group exercises and rhythmic dance, training their bodies and establishing a healthy lifestyle.

The school’s curriculum adopts the Whole Language Instruction. This approach allows students to learn and apply language in an interesting and interactive manner. The school strongly believes that ‘Anywhere in the community can be a classroom’. Apart from the school, there are a lot of learning opportunities around the community. At school, teachers first introduce the learning theme either by storytelling, showing photos or videos, stimulating the interest of students to the learning theme. Next, teachers foster discussion among the students and guide them to an agreement on a fieldtrip location in order to connect students’ learning with real-life experiences. During the fieldtrip, students record their observations and share their observations with classmates when they return to school. The motivation behind this curriculum is to ensure that the learning of students is meaningful and relatable to everyday life whilst strengthening their language and communication skills simultaneously, giving students a thirst for knowledge and encouraging them to express their emotions and ideas.

The school places a strong emphasis in establishing a caring culture, highlighting the importance of caring to students via different daily activities. Elements of love and care can be found infiltrated within the school curriculum, so that students learn to love themselves, love others, care for the community and care for the nature. Mixed age-group activities are organized weekly, giving students opportunities to interact with other students from different grades. Older students are given the responsibility to take care of younger students. Together they engage in various collaborative and games. During these games students are free to explore different areas of the school, play with different toys and work together, strengthening their social abilities. Moreover, students will learn to care for themselves through big muscle group exercises, understanding the importance of exercise in maintaining a fit and healthy body.

Life Education - Planting and Pet Keeping
There is a designated area in school for students to grow their own plants according to the season. Through ploughing, sowing, watering, recording plant growth and harvesting, students learn about the hard work and attention required in taking care of plants. They also learn that plants have their own life too but they sacrifice themselves to become our food, therefore they should be appreciative and cherish what they have. Moreover, each class has their own pet, e.g. turtle, goldfish etc. Students feed and clean their class pet daily, taking care of their daily life. From this, students understand the preciousness of life.

Language Learning —English and Putonghua Lessons

In order to establish a solid foundation in Chinese and English, the school hires native English and Putonghua specialist teachers to conduct language lessons with students. Students consolidate their language skills from a variety of activities, such as: storytelling, songs, games, phonics and conversations. These specialist teachers carefully plan their activities such that students can learn and develop their language skills in a fun and relaxed environment.

Arts Activity – Chinese Painting
The school strongly values and respects traditional culture and arts. We invited a highly experienced Chinese painting instructor to introduce this beautiful art to K2 and K3 students. Students are taught a range of Chinese painting techniques and gain exposure to this art by having a go at creating their own Chinese painting. Students can also personalize their artwork with their creativity.
